The PowerWatch X is a smartwatch that runs off your body heat

Matrix Industries’ proclaimed the initial PowerWatch back in 2016 with AN intriguing, if somewhat arduous to believe claim: a watch that used a proprietary electricity energy device to power the measuring instrument solely from excess body heat. And whereas the initial PowerWatch did live up to those claims, it had been somewhat restricted in what it might really do, with the first-generation additional or less restricted to basic fitness chase.

This year, though, Matrix is emotional the PowerWatch X, AN updated version of its forerunner that adds support for smartphone notifications over Bluetooth, turning it into a real smartwatch.

I was able to demo the PowerWatch X in short at CES, however sadly, the model I tested didn’t have purposeful notifications nonetheless, therefore I can’t say however well that feature works or what notifications can even appear as if on the device. As for the hardware itself, it’s a fairly chunky watch even relative to alternative good watches, though it had been lighter than I expected and pretty comfy despite its bulk.

Matrix Industries isn’t the sole company attempting to unravel the smartwatch charging drawback — we’ve seen crowdfunded comes try and use kinetic charging or alternative energy to do and attain the same trick, too.

The PowerWatch X is obtainable for preorder for $249.99, and is anticipated to ship someday in Q1 2018 (although no precise unleash date has been announced).
